@bigboy789inches 14 degree curve just barely qualifies for a brace. Otherwise they usually just wait to see if any thing happens

@itsjustmarie1 I had mine 1 year ago on february 14th... I had a 118 degree curve top, and 60 bottom, They straightened my top one to around 60-70 and my low is straightening itself, I have a spinal vertabrate now sticking out from my spine, And a very senstive bone, i lost 4 and a half ribs, The procedure took 4 hours. the doctor told me the surgery was to risky and would ost likeyl kill me as my lung and heart were being crushed by my ribs My rib cage was also twisted Or i would be in a chair.

When first diagnosed last summer, my 13 yr old daughter had 58* lower and 60* upper. She's since grown several inches (in a few months) and her curves have increased. Her surgery is 3 wks from now and is expected to be six hours.

This is my opinion I'm not a doctor by my sister is specialising in orthopedics atm. From what it sounds like your curve isnt serious enough to qualify for surgery, the best option would be to go to your doctor and ask about a brace. Braces can be worn in the day but mostly people are told to where them during sleeping, and its design to keep it from rotating further, or even correct it altogether. Surgery is probably out of the question for you at this stage anyway so dont worry!

Hi i am 25 year old male and i have a 14 degree curve in my spine, I would like the surgery but my father is scared something goes wrong. Do you have any advice on how to convince him on me getting the surgery. Also i have been doing some research and I have seen that scoliosis surgery can take up to 14hours, and also that you are awaken at points of the surgery to test if the spinal cord is in tact.

@jennykraines2004 Harrington Rod is the steel implant that the doctor used in the video, the one that goes between the screws. it is used for lateral or coronal plane curvature of the spine, or scoliosis like in this video.
