  • Buzz Is a total badass. I dont know that much from Butterfield, but his style on Neil Larsen's High Gear from '79 is on fire. Check it out Feiten Fan, and anyone else who digs that stuff. I heard Buzz with Dave Weckl more recently, and he still cooks. Any more ideas where I can find good Buzz shit?

  • There is a lot of good live Buzz stuff around on the trading circles. With regards to Niel Larsen I checked it out when it was released, and saw the band live, great stuff.

  • I think I accidently deleted a comment about Paul harp...sorry, I belive Paul played Marine Band harmonicas, I am about 85% sure on this but not totally positive. I do know he prefered a Shure mike instead of an Astatic which most Chicago sytle players use.

  • Ther is no player remotely like Buzz .. such intensity .. stunning .

  • This is true...I second that opinion..and third it also.

  • richtig guter Blues vom feinsten. Klasse, weiter so

  • I agree !!

  • @FeitenFan He exclusivley used marine band harmonicas thats him with one there. he endorsed them on the first album. and he used either a shure pe54 pistol grip mic or a shure 5454 wand mic.

  • @mrhalter1 yeah, miss him a lot

  • @mrhalter1 sorry he didn't make it past 87, would have loved to trade harp licks with him. My brother went to high school with Mike Bloomfield, wish i could have traded places with my brother so I would have met him before he hooked up with Paul, history might have been a whole lot different. Might have been the Ron Beretta Blues Band!!!

  • @canthesoda don't know who that is, but you may have to add another name to the list, name is Ron Beretta out of Chicago, have played for over 30 years and just looking for the right musicians to hook up with and do some recording. AKA Bluesman Ron

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO I haven't ever tried the standard hohner blues. I got one of the ms blues that uses hohners modular system. It's pretty nice you can bend the heck out of it. I'll have to try one of the standard blues harps. I've always digged Paul's sound... Just wish he had taken care of himself... I would of loved to see him live but was born a little late for that.... Damn...

  • @mrhalter1 you are correct, don't know what i was thinking when i typed that. I still love the Blues Harps, as they fit with the single note style of playing i use, and have always used since first hearing Paul

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO I think you meant Lee Oskar Major Diatonic. Special 20's are made by Hohner. I love Marine bands and Special 20's! They are great harps after a little work. Seydel harps are great also but cost a arm...

  • @FeitenFan yes, i play hohner too, but the Blues Harp model, have laways loved their tone a little better. another good harp is the lee oskar Special 20's

  • Butterfield was pure EMOTION--the epitome of a harp player--I had the pleasure of meeting--jamming and drinking some beers with the entire Butterfield band--many yrs. back. Just an aside to maupric--if you listen to SRV he has coped Albert and Lonnie Mack licks--speeded them up an added a lil' of his own.

  • Butterfield was a real genius on the harp, and his voice came right out of his heart. Long gone, but never forgotten.
