in a ju-jitsu tournament is it both stand up and ground work?
-
@the888CCCC Yeah I know. What equipment/ruleset do you use for Sport JJ. I belong to a club and we're looking to getting more sparring involved.
-
@ronhudsonjr This is Japanese Jujitsu translated into sport. It's fairly similar to MMA, though obviously with gis (also, the rules make it less violent than typical MMA). It's essentially knockdown karate combined with judo.

where is there training for this?

i'm interested in finding out about the Northern Ireland team, who you and youe club are, where you train and what kinda techniques you do. I've just started JiJitsu in Derry and it's nice to see what's out there

Does Sport Jujutsu allow submissions on the ground or is it only points?

No not really BJJ. Limited time on the ground. Depends on what organisation how long you get on ground. Some allow 15seconds, some allow 30. Its point sparring, plus 3 points for a throw, 2 points for a sweep. No ground and pound allowed, just grappling on the ground. Kind of like amateur mma but with a gi.

Anyone wanting to try out for Northern Ireland team can do so. Unlike what other organisations say there is competition and if you would like to test your skills you can email me and I will put you in contact with the N.I team director. Not bad for a wee country!!
