SMASH NIKE

Urgent call for action, protest and solidarity.

Smash Nike Japan's plan to take over and privatise a public park in central Tokyo (Miyashita Park in Shibuya ward) by purchasing "naming rights" from the local Shibuya Ward Council.
Shibuya Ward Council is estimated to receive approximately 150 million yen over 5 years, and NIKE, the sporting giant infamous for its exploitation in South East Asian sweatshops, will gain yet another prime location for advertisement.

...And the homeless who have no where else to go, are again in danger of losing homes and basic living rights.

Just stop it.

Time is pressing. The DEADline is September 1.

The "NIKE Park" project was officially announced on June 11 at the Shibuya Ward Council meeting. Construction is planned to start on September 1. Only one month ahead.

Your actions, protests and solidarity will be most helpful and effective in making the Japanese society become aware and raise questions to this scandalous project called "NIKE Park". Please send in your action footage, reports and solidarity comments, etc., to:
minnanokouenn@gmail.com

Today, on July 31, a protest action in front of the NIKE Japan headquarters in Tokyo will be held. And of course, more to come.

In solidarity.

Also, in all your condescending elitism you should consider not using most computers, if not the one you used to type that unjustifiably harsh reply you posted to my comment because it was probably built in a Chinese factory where the labor conditions are deplorable and unacceptable by our arrogant Western standards.

In conclusion, I didn't appreciate your name calling on the presumption you know me but at least we know what type of character you are.

  • @ebolart

Yeah okay, thanks for the reply Mother Teresa. And thank you for presuming you know me and my world views on certain topics. In this case, sweat shops.

If we dig deep into everything in life we will find something that disturbs us and that we definitely don't support. But at the end of the day we got to just live and do our best to not contribute to the bad that exists. If you can't handle the bad that exists in this world then go into hiding.

  • @brantastik

yeah forget the sweat shops and child labour, cleaning up a park makes you be ashamed of them. youre an idiot.

  • what was the guys saying ?

  • I have been a life long Nike head which is a LONG time seeing as I'm probably older than most here. I feel so ashamed right now. From this day on I am no longer a Nike Head. I'm sure many of the other sneaker companies have engaged in bad practices but until they come to light and are on the same level as this then I'll buy other brands.
