Pacing shot of CamTrak II as it transits the subway tunnels of the NJ Hirailers layout ( http://www.njhirailers.com/ ), amongst MTH subways running by on the other tracks.

This video takes place during the second lap of the 'CamTrak2 in the NJ Hirailers Subway' listed above this one on my mainpage. I managed to stay out of the camcorder's view up to the very end of the video.

How realistic is the NJ Hirailers' subway? Suspend disbelief for a moment at about 1:25 to get an idea of how realistic this portion of the layout is--until CamTrak 2 rolls by on the express track, pushed by a Lionel R-27 subway :)

Shot with a Canon PowerShot SX-100.

  • Express camera , awesome work on the lay out

  • @JrFlexing909

Check out the layout on the 'club webcams' link at the club's homepage (linked in the description). The whole subway is roofed over, and there's an almost completed 3-track el now.

  • ANYONE!! know what was used to make the 3rd rail models? (Mateirals and instructions)

  • The outside third rails? I believe they are HO scale rail soldered to flat-headed wood screws inserted into pre-drilled holes in the crossties, probably extended ones inserted every fifth tie or so once the (Atlas O) track is fastened down.

The NJ Hirailers have an YouTube account (NJHirailers) that you could send a PM to jus to be sure, or failing that, go to their website (at the most obvious URL) and find a contact email there.

  • how much does the camcorder weigh?

  • 1.2 pounds

    (I found my digital scale)

  • Very Nice! You could have a pacing car with a bank of lights like they did in 1904 for the opening of the IRT. This inspires me to make one myself!

  • fabulous, geez, that car is perfect!

  • really kool... cheers mate...

  • Yes, scratchbuilt from sheet styrene, and custom-fitted to the particular camcorder I have.
