Great playing as always. I probably need a better mic myself. Mine plugs directly into my USB port.

thanks, man!
i'll look into the SM-57.
I've wanted a Shure for a long time, and i know it'll deliver far better than my AKG.
And...i'm lucky enough to own a four track mixer and a couple of amps and cables and things, so i won't have to worry about usb recording.
Thanks so much for your help, dude.
It's always great to talk to someone polite and helpful in an "online community" like this.
Keep posting cool stuff!
hey...i'm a (not very good) aspiring musician, and i do a lot of recording in my "studio" (aka my room). I was wondering if you could tell me why you chose the blue snowball mic, and what benefits it gave you and obstacles it presented.
I completely understand if you don't have time to answer this, but if you get around to it, i'd be really interested.
I've been considering an SM-57 or -58, b/c right now i have sort of an average AEG mic, and i'm looking at my options for an upgrade.

Hey, thanks for the comment! The snowball was my first mic, the positives of that mic was that it could just plug directly into my computer. It worked fine for a while but I was limited on what I could do, it was great with vocals and soft trumpet playing but the louder and higher I got I would have to be a GREAT distance away and it became REALLY hard to record dynamics. I recently bought a Shure X2U (XLR to USB device). With that I can plug ANY XLR mic right into my computer, that opened my

options to TONS of mics. After reading online and trying some stuff out I decided to buy a Shure SM-57. That turned out to be a GREAT decision for me. I don't know tons about mics but if you are gonna record a lot of trumpet then I strongly suggest going with the Shure SM-57. If you watch my multitrack of "When I'm 64" you can hear me using the SM-57. Let me know if you have any other questions!
