John Freshwater August 4th 2008 (part 1)

A larger than expected crowd showed up to express their sentiment on the Freshwater issue at the Mount Vernon school board meeting of August 4th 2008.

Clarification to the in video text: Freshwater received the "Distinguished Service Award" for the 2006-2007 school year.

(I'm uploading most of the comments made during the public participation portion of the meeting—however, the battery in my camera ran low towards the end of the meeting so the later comments are missing. I also removed one person's comments because towards the end of the meeting they retracted part of what they said with apologies to the person they had directed their comments towards.)

Mr. Freshwater has not been fired--he was placed on unpaid leave.

His students met and exceed state standards on the Ohio Achievement Test.

he would encourage and promote

his views with books, and he questioned students whether giraffes and woodpeckers were created. he also discredited carbon dating and paleontology regarding dinosaurs. 100% truth

You know, I happen to agree: Christians SHOULD pull their children out of public school. Hopefully, that will solve the incredibly stupid "teach the controversy" ploy of the creationists/ID(iot)s trying to get their RELIGION into the science classroom. Oh, but don't expect your children to get into colleges (see the case in California case going on right now).

While I do not know Freshwater personally, I am familiar with the religious community he springs from and the related churches in Morrow, Delaware, and Knox counties. The imbroglio Mr. Freshwater is in is one of his own choosing. This is a consequence of the hostile, self-centered style of Calvinist Christianity prevalent in the Evangelical congregations of Central Ohio. Freshwater set out to troll the secular world and has succeeded marvelously. He isn't a victim in this - he's on the attack.
