For what issue might you risk your comfort? For what cause might you put your freedom and even your existence on the line? Most people would answer "family," and many would add "good friends," and that will be taken for granted here. But aside from blood lines and choices of mutually affirmative relationships, what issues are important enough to fight and die for?
Many people would say for my country. But what is a country? Is it a constitution? Aristotle says yes: "The people are the constitution." Even further, Aristotle adds that humans are naturally social and naturally choose and belong in a state. And states are both formed and maintained by constitutions. But let me add to Aristotle's understanding the notion that there are normative principles that underlie every constitution and are instantiated by that constitution. It is those principles that unite us as a people. Therefore, it is those principles that are worth fighting and dying for. It is those principles that make up the culture which abides by a constitution.

  • Do you know from where did the values upon which the constitution is founded originate? The values founded of the constitution were: Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness= Not religion!

  • Where do these rights come from? Your plainly rhetorical quote about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, sounds good on a bumper sticker but, do not address the reasons why we respect those ideals. So with this in mind, would you elaborate as to why all humans are endowed with certain inalienable rights?

I'm not sure you understand why rights come from something other than man or men's laws, but from that thing that is called god.

  • Is this not what the KKK and other Orders advocate? I challenge you to do your own research and come to your own conclusions regarding the purpose and intent of the KKK of the 1800's. You may be surprised to discover the extent that our government is willing to act in order to mislead the public and eliminate opposition.

  • What exactly are you refering to? I find your comment very outrageous and rhetorically vague. Did you listen to the video? Is this a comment for this video?

  • Great commentary. Through the deliberate lack of teaching sadly, the majorities now care little about anyone but themselves.

Try "Googling" 1929 "marxist manifesto" and it will give you some idea where the freedoms of yester year went.

  • you know it takes a nation right.

  • Our problem today is that most people have not studied the declaration of independenc, the constitution, and the federalist papers. If they have, then we would not be in this sad state of affairs. Education is the key. But how do you get people to turn off the tv and pick up a book?
