Transport minister Lynne Kosky has now promised the Myki ticketing system to be fully up and running on Melbourne's trans, trams and busses by Christmas 2009. But that won't be the end of the old ticketing system until a minimum 50% adoption by the public of Myki is achieved. As reported on Channel 7 6pm evening news on 7th September 2009.
@Samb0123 if you forgot your wallet then your myki would be left at home too?
myki is just like a metcard at the moment except that instead of getting a new paper card you hold on to a plastic reusable card. unless they develop it into a cash card like what the HK optupus card or Taiwan Easycard or Singapore EzCard where you can use it as CASH at certain stores, it is just a plastic version of metcard - and not very great at doing the things that metcard does so well too.

people need to give myki a break they will iron out the bugs im sure the same thing happened with metcard when it came out they need people to use it to say whats wrong. some of the shots they have taken have made it look terrible particularly the the one where the scanner falls apart but if you look closely you can see a neck thing which would be suggesting its some kind of key to get into it & repair

$1.3 billion+ for a card system. Makes people wonder if Melbourne needed this or other better services instead. Christmas has passed and still no Myki in Melbourne yet.

MetCard is over 11 years old and they cant get parts for it anymore, also, Myki will save people money, people will save up to 98c for a day hour ticket! and myki will work on V/Line trains and country buses and well as trains, trams, and buses! Myki is much better than MetCard!

I have been in Melb for four yrs now and have always used the public transport (I dont drive). I dont know what's wrong with metcard. It works flawlessly. It seems Aust Govt has plenty of money to throw around.

In my opinion, this smart card thing was a good idea at the time, but this is ridiculous. Delayed, number of problems and a cost of over 1 billion dollars. I don't see why we need a new system anyway. Whats wrong with metcard? Much better.
