Big House Blues -- Okanagan Swing 2008
Although it is hardly been played today this is a famous and I think interesting tune recorded for the first time in 1930 by Duke Ellington and his Harlem Feetwarmers.
When I started with Okanagan Swing in 2003 I eventually introduced it to the musicians and it has developed into a nice head arrangement.
We play it here at a concert on april 12 for the Vernon Jazz Society in British Columbia, unfortunately one of the very few jazz clubs in this province.
The personnel of the band consists of Don Ross on tenor saxophone, Bjorn Edblad clarinet, me (Bob Erwig) on cornet, George Beazley piano, Randy Millan guitar, Bernie Addington bass and former trumpetplayer Jazzbo Bill Lowden on drums.

  • This is a great old tune. I used to have a version by Bob Wallis and his Storyville Jazzmen, it wasn't a patch on this performance, thanks for posting Bob, it's one I can play along with.

  • I noticed your subscriptions. you are a man with the pure taste. Keep on swinging on your saxophone!

  • I like it. My husband and I go to jazz-festivals here in England, and twice now we've been to Whitley Bay in the north of the country. We had a great time and heard lots of bands from all over the world. My address is 'elinshouse' and I've sent several videos to YouTube, and lots more to come from my latest film-session.

  • damn nice song i found this by accident but sounds great.

  • Wow what a nice tune!! :-)

    Just great music!!!

  • Great arrangement- love it.
