PlaneGard - A fire containment case for the airline industry. Fires may and do occur when the Li-ion battery of an electronic device (laptop, cell phone, MP3 Player, etc) over-heats and goes into thermal runaway. In this video the laptop battery was forced into thermal runaway by using a cartridge heater.

  • This video was a simulation where the battery was put into thermal runaway by heating it directly and the explosion occurred very rapidly. In an actual situation the laptop would first have a noticeable odor followed by some visible smoke. When brought to the attention of a trained flight attendant on the airplane, the laptop would be calmly placed into the PlaneGard case. This would render the laptop harmless thus avoiding a violent battery explosion in the main cabin and passenger panic an
