Another thing. 27 Squadron had to get special permission from Disney to use the Dumbo logo on their planes and equipment. The official crest showed a rather staid and conventional elephant, but they decided that Dumbo was much more dashing.
My ex husband serviced the navigation systems on the 27 Squadron Vulcans at Scampton. He was very upset when the squadron disbanded and the Vulcans were scrapped. So was I. I remember coming back on the bus one afternoon from the army school in Episkopi in the early 60s while my father was serving in Cyprus and watching two Vulcans doing aerobatics over the sea as we drove along the cliffside road. Lovely planes. Very graceful and amazingly manoeuvrable despite their size.
WOW WHAT A VIDEO OF VULCANS IN SERVICE, THE FALKLANDS PROVED THE NEED FOR A VULCAN, THEN SHE STILL GOT RID OF IT, AND INDEED IF WE HAD IT IN THE GULF, SHE COULD CARRY 14 LAZER GUIDED WEPONS AND WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN ALL THE FIGTERS THAT COULD CARRY A FEW EACH, LONG LIVE THE VULCAN,
Just a note, it costs £2 million a year to keep Vulcan XH 558 flying.
Its costs roughly £80 million a year to pay all our 'beloved' MPs, effectively all their wages combined would keep 558 flying for roughly 30-40 years.
Well the usaf have the $ to keep the b52 flying, whereas we cant even equip our soldiers properly. Cant help thinking though, that the vulc could loiter over afganistan like the b52 does, dropping LGBs as and when needed.
More original footage of Vulcans in their prime, listen to them......im in heaven....... thanks for posting.
