Last night, equality prevailed, bringing marriage equality to Americans in Maine, Maryland and Minnesota, and we're waiting to hear about Washington.
http://gayfamilyvalues.blogspot.com/2...

Maine:

Mainers voted to pass Question 1, which allows loving same-sex couples to legally marry in the state. This law will take effect 30 days after the governor proclaims last night's election results, which won't come until the results are officially tabulated, so we don't yet know exactly when marriage licenses will become available to same-sex couples.

Maryland:

Marylanders voted to pass Question 6, a referendum allowing same-sex couples to legally marriage. The new law will take effect in Maryland on January 1, 2013.

Washington

Referendum 74, the marriage equality law would go into effect on December 6.

Minnesota:

On Election night, Minnesotans struck down an Amendment 1, which would have changed the state constitution to bar same-sex couples from marrying. While Minnesota still has a law that prohibits marriage for same-sex couples, the win on Election Night proves that momentum in the state is behind marriage equality.

Forget the pro or anti gay marriage arguments for a second. How does the anti-gay marriage side think it can win long term? If I was NOM I would concede on practical grounds, they lose 1% of support per year, they will be screwed in 2030 when 70% of the country approves of gay marriage. Why waste the time and energy staving of the inevitable?

NOM will never concede as long as the money keeps coming into the organization. The leaders of NOM are making 500K a year each to preach hate.

As a straight Baptist in the South, let me say that I too am "super jazzed" as well about the votes this week.

I am glad that equality won at the ballot box, but I also long for the day that we realize that the majority doesn't have the right to vote on the rights of the minority. They are called rights people, not "things we think you get."

Congrats to all my LGBTQ sisters and brothers, especially those in ME, MD, and WA!

    Love never fails.

    Yeah. I favor marriage equality.

It just seems like a thankless job to work so hard against gay marriage and go from 65% against in 1996 and now 48% (ish) in 2013.

If you move a large chunk of ice out of the direct sunlight into the shade it will only slow it from melting, not stop it. It seems like that is what opponents are doing. They can delay gay marriage in several states for an extra 4 years or 6 years, I just don't think they can win long term.

This video was such a joyous counterpoint to the video you made on years ago on that dark day when Prop 8 was uphold by the California Supreme Court. I remember Bryan's tears while holding Selena, and I am so grateful that it is rather groups like Focus on the Family that are feeling dejected and prone to tears these days.
