View our unique design of the License Plate Reader. The Memphis Police Department has the most powerful, and most flexible LPR system available. This video demonstrates how an officer can sit on the side of the road and listen for the sounds as cars drive by. Each "read" is cross referenced against several million records in numerous databases in less than one second. Once the officers learn the sounds, they only have to listen for them, then view the screen when something interests them. Our LPR (Prowler) can be controlled from inside the car to pan left or right and will read a tag at speeds of over 100 mph. Numerous stolen cars have already been recovered, as well as warrant arrests, drug arrests, etc. We have 73 of these on the streets today and another 60 will be deployed in July of 2010.
