Follow me as I recreate the "Alpha_Sector" flash game in Actionscript 3.0
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/354813 - Play it

You will hear my thoughts and my thinking process each step of the way, I'm winging this series for your benefit, you can see how I debug odd problems and understand what I chose to code something the way I did.

In this first part I show how to set up a game project with a preloader and the essential structure to a game.

By the end of the first hour you will have a player running around the screen with 3 different types of guns, and know how to add another gun in just a minute flat. If you find this a bit boring or slow at times, feel free to skip around! There's a lot of content

  • i suggest recording the full screen.

i didnt get what the screen was in the back, what files you were using, or pretty much anything you were doing.

ithis video probably wasnt made to explain how to do it, but it didnt help me at all :<

  • I think if you added codes in the description, it would be easier

  • hey,

very good tutorial. i think it's a good idea to not include the scripts in the description, otherwise you'll never learn how to script and that is a big part of making games.

but i wonder, what is the actual difference between jacascript and actionscript?

  • thank you so so much.

    really great tutorial. very clever.

    peace

  • hah, i'm the 1337th viewer!! nice tutorials... I've picked up an interest in programming and started off in actionscript 3. So far i've managed to create about 70% of the framework of a tower defense game. My only problem is that each level is one big hierarchy of classes and i find it hard to make low level classes communicate with root objects (like the level class) maybe these vids will have some helpful info
