Dan Emmett may have wrote Dixie while in NYC, but he was born and raised in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Every August, Mount Vernon holds the Dan Emmett Music and Arts Festival. If you're ever in Ohio the second weekend of August, you must come to Mount Vernon. It's a first class, small-town street fair with everything from local talent, classic car show, Civil War re-enactors, Gospel music, craftsmen selling their homemade wares, and of course good food!

Great playing! I didn't know Dan Emmett of NYC wrote this song. I bet many people didn't know that. Thanks!

Well, it's not Moby Dick, but it's my second favorite now. I miss my Dad's banjo playing.

God bless the South. Thank you brother. This is just what I needed.

Buddy you and "Thor718" ought pick together your banjo work is awesome, great version of Dixie!
Johnny Reb {North Carolina}
That's some fancy pickin there banjo man. Do you prefer to play with a metronome to without? I bet it is good for making you more consistent. Would you concur?

When I met Bela Fleck, he said the word, "metronome" three times.

Ha. He also said "beets" three times didn't he? I hate beets.

Yes, he did...consecutively. Those were the first three words Bela said. It baffled me. I'm still stunned from the experience.
