http://www.askthebuilder.com host Tim Carter demonstrates one way to drill ice by using a chip auger bit on a cordless. Ice drilling helps you gauge how thick the ice is on a lake. Lake ice can be unpredictable, and it's a good idea to use a drill to know how thick the ice is.

  • What's the maximum torque of your drill?

  • @JigoLigo I have no idea. You may be able to look it up yourself. Sorry!

  • Well, it looks like you are by the edge of the river, where the current doesn't weaken the ice. I bet you that if you go more towards the

    Middle it should be thiner.

  • @ahernandez1080 I was at the edge, but not a river. I'm about 20 feet out away from the west shore of Lake Winnisquam in NH.

  • It's indeed gorgeous out there. Been there many times. But you have to contend with the pesky wild fires and earthquakes. And soon you'll have no water. Bummer! Looks like there is no perfect place.

  • And that is why I wouldnt trade our So. Calif. weather.
