A car windshield or side window is usually more expensive than a GPS. If you put that shiny metal object on it, all it will do is attract more attention to it. No thief will think he can't steal it before he tries. And trying means he smashes your window anyway.
Best way to keep it safe is to take it with you, and remove the window mount. Then just get a glass cloth and clean the spot to remove that suction cup stain and you're done.
