Embedding the clip is of course ok, BUT otherwise no further use, no copying and no publication of this material is allowed without my permission. Kaushiki Chakrabarty sings the first part of 'Yaad Piya Ki Aaye', a semi-classical thumri-piece, more specific: a dadra. The song was created, sung and made famous by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. You can listen to the remainder of the song in another video via http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84IT8WWbnpM here on my channel.
This is a recording of Kaushiki's concert in the Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam, on April 15th, 2007. On tabla: Subhashish Bhattacharjee ; on harmonium: Vyasmurti Anandteerth Katti ; on tanpura: Julia Ohrmann. The pictures are stills of my video-interview with Kaushiki a few days before this concert, an interview that was used for my video-portrait on her that's published here on my youtube-channel. FROM 5'35 UNTIL THE END YOU CAN ALSO WATCH Kaushiki's performance in the VIDEO FOOTAGE that I had of this part of the recording.

hope you'll enjoy this video...

If you like this video and would like to hear more, I'd like to recommend my 90-minute radio-portrait on Kaushiki Chakrabarty and the Patiala Kasur Gharana, broadcasted on 30th November 2007 at dutch radiostation De Concertzender. You can listen on demand to this radioprogramme via http://www.concertzender.nl/programmagids.php?detail=25851&date=2007-11-30 by clicking on the speaker icon on that page.

  • Hi Pieter, are you sure its a Dhadra? the tekka seems like kherwa

  • @himu90

I see your point... but Kaushiki announced it as "a dadra" - and I follow her in this of course, moreover I have the recording of her announcement as proof :) - no doubt in her announcement she was referring to "a dadra" here as the classical style of singing and not to the tabla taal... so, yes, this can be a bit confusing, initially I was asking myself exactly the same question as you do here :)

  • @PieterdeRooijHolland

I believe she was describing the music genre as 'dadara' , not the tabla beat, which is also called dadra

  • @srtambe : hi, I already explained this extensively months ago saying she was referring to a dadra as the style of singing and not to the tabla taal. See my response above adressed to himu90

  • Love from Lahore.

  • yes i am sure

  • This is in Raaga Hemant which is close to Bhinna Shadaj. It is not Mishra Mand. Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb ji composed it in Raaga Hemant and the taal is Keherava. Thanks for the lovely video, I am a big fan of Kaushiki ji!

  • @abubakarmari Are you sure it is Bhinashadaj? It sounds like Mishra Mand.

  • if your lover listen to this song to be more precise the way she is singing and obviously if he is not tone deaf will he return early ? just think about it .
