Here's a long, evasive story
Of failed hopes and glories
Old chandeliers and scratched up 45s
Here's some hymns for my procession
And a couple drunk confessions
A lie soaked in rapture tonight

No, no lie, no lie, no, not I
Believe me when I say
That I'm trying hard today
But I'm not right, no I'm not right
Tell me it's not true
I would never lie to you

I'm not right, no I'm not right
Maybe you will see that it wasn't meant to be
But it's me, no

The sins of the faithful
The luxuries of regret
But it's the faithless who will know loves tradgedies
An act of purification
Will all the best intentions
Spite me for minding my iniquities

No, no lie, no lie, no, not I
I can't believe you say that
You're better off this way

But I'm not right, no I'm not alright
Tell me what you see
When you stand and look at me
I'm not right, no I'm not right
I'm sorry when I say
I'm still holding on today

And will you forgive me
When I'm found dead on this train
On the outskirts of Berlin
Doubled up on angel dust
There crying on my knees
For some God to come and save this lifeless soul for me
And my ghost will write these words
As you cry yourself to sleep

I'm not right, no I'm not alright
You'd never want to know
What I'm capable of
I'm not right, no I'm not alright
Tell me it's not true
I would not believe you
I'm not right, no I'm not right
Maybe you will see that it wasn't meant to be
But it's not me

  • this released a single wouldve gotten this band places. without a doubt.

& if welcome the night had got the mainstrem attention it deserved, they wouldve been as big as coldplay is right now.

  • I thought that "The Cheyenne Line" would have been the biggest hit, but this, too, would have been pretty huge. Honestly, there was nothing wrong with "Not Capable of Love"; another tremendous song, people just didn't take to it for some reason.

Such an underrated album, and I cannot understand the disdain for the different direction Kris Roe took the band. Welcome the Night (along with all the B-sides; Oh, Kansas City is one of his best songs ever) is probably my all-time favorite album.

  • agreed completely.

this album is definitely my favourite album ever,

ive never really stopped listening to it since it came out.

it just strikes a chord with me that no other music ever has.

and everyone ive shown it to also fell in love with it.

so yea, sometimes it bugs me that it didnt get the

mainstream attention it deserved cause you can tell they

really put their all into it and i dont think kris will ever write an album like WTN again.

where can i hear "oh kansas city"?

    i cant find it.

  • this is the most under-rated album ever. It features so many great details in all the song, and it is a synthesis of most of the things I like in music: there are great guitar riffs and energy as well as haunting scenarios, and post-rock influences...Love this album and this is one of my fav tunes off it

  • why does his voice sound so much different on this album?

  • this album makes feel sorry for kris and what he was going through while writing these songs

  • one word to describe this album : MATURE.

  • nobody clicked the 'dislike' button! yay!

  • @uselessidguy331 a lot of things hurt this record. 1) it was never supposed to be released under the "Ataris" name 2) Columbia basically shit a brick because they wanted another Don Henley cover. 3) After tons of delays and no promotion on it at all, plus essentially alienating all of the fanbase they picked up with Astoria, it's no wonder that the album "failed."

The band seemed reluctant to play stuff from it recently but they pulled this one out for us in Orlando a few months back

  • i dont know what to think about their new stuff, it's so much differnt compared to their previous work. when i first heard it, i didnt even think it was Kris Roe singing. i like it still, it's just not the The Ataris i had grown to love

    kindaa sad really :/
