Why is it that these old games seem so much more atmospheric than your whizz popping titles of today... was thinking about it the other day, I'm always on the look out for a really atmospheric game but very rarely do I find them... indy titles sometimes... funny, seems like shitty graphics that leave a lot to the imagination actually make for a much more immersive experience than say Crysis 2 which, with all it's splangliness played like a day out at Tesco's. Most titillating.

Yeah, I think people get caught up with making things look realistic, manage aspects of gameplay, choose voices, and all that, that they end up not having time or focus on a true story. It's hard to find a game that treats itself as a movie or as a book, which is quite upsetting.

You probably alredy have, but sheck out "Ico", "Shadow of the Collosus" and "Journey." For great Indie tiltles... look up "To The Moon" and the "Blackwell series"

I think Prince of Persia did the whole cinematic-platformer first. But this was an improvement.

i believe developers think thats what the new gaming generation wants, fast and cheap thrills maybe they think they have to get their attention in the first few minutes and keep it going or they get quickly bored, and perhaps its true

Strangely enough, the graphics system in this game does actually work a little similar to flash.

However when this game first saw light of day, it was an absolute masterpiece - no one had ever seen anything like it before. We had been limited to hard wired sprites, memory limitations meant that games simply could'nt have done this kind of thing without a different way of working. and so this vector based rendering came along :)
