Flying to Zurich to acquire the Euthanasia Drug Nembutal, Dr John Elliott, dying of Multiple Myeloma, used the service of Dignitas to achieve a peaceful death by drinking Nembutal, a death denied him in Australia.
His wife Angelika and Dr Philip Nitschke and Dr Fiona Stewart from Exit International also accompanied him on this trip.

  • Was bad too. He had serious mental illness all his life and we had to see his suffering. If assisted suicide is to be legalized then those who choose to take their life with out help from an organization should have the same right to die.

  • People with depression and mental illness take their lives all the time. My brother took his in 2011. What is the difference between suicide and assisted suicide. One who takes their life to escape emotional pain and suffering is considered taking the easy way out but one who is assisted in taking their life because of physical pain and the emotional pain caused by physical pain is seen as a person who is blessed and strong and right in making his choice to die. The suffering my brother felt w

  • Great video. There is no reason that government should criminalize a person's choice to determine how their life will end. I do take issue with many of the comments against religion. It is certainly wrong for anyone to impose any opinion into law based on their religious beliefs, but religion is not the problem. The problem is people that think that they have the authority to regulate our personal choices.

  • It should be legal. It is the individual's choice. They evaluated psychologically and medically to make sure this decision is indeed warranted. Who is anyone to say they can't have peace?

  • When talking about abortion, Christopher Hitches said bringing religion into the argument takes all the steam out of it. I would say the same for the argument on assisted suicide. Leave religion out of it, and if your argument is strong enought, it will stand on its own. The problem is that there is no good argument for why a consenting adult should not be able to end his or her life. If someone is suffering bad enough to want to die, they should have the option to go in a dignified way.

  • @iflyboats couldn't have said it better myself.

  • I think all who want to kill themselves should be totaly free to do whatever they want to themselves, none of my business.

  • religious pieces of shit... fuck you for what you've done to this world

  • @MsSmileAllot Thats exactly why I would never believe in a god!!! If there was such thing as hell I wouldn't wish that on anybody!!! But you god loving religious freaks do it all the time. As soon as someone says they don't believe in god, a believer threatens them with pain and suffering for eternity. That is sick and I don't know why anybody would want to be a part of that!!!!!!

  • While most are (rather ignorantly) arguing religion in these comments, some are watching the video and marveling at the beauty and frailty of life...to choose to not suffer anymore leaves me feeling inspired to live my life NOW while I'm healthy to its fullest...
