I've read this book and found it disappointing. It wasn't well researched and fell short of being academic in that it focussed on not relevant factors to the premise.
Not because it came to the conclusion that Elvis isn't a religion - but because it relied too much on fiction movies interpreting Elvis
which has nothing to do with what actual people do with Elvis.
And what People do with Elvis is make pilgrimages to Graceland, attend at impersonator shows to hear the word of Elvis.
