I own a macbook pro, an iphone, and a kindle. I would never buy the ipad because it doesn't make any since to own for anyone that has a laptop and a smart phone. The ipad is a blown up iphone that doesn't have the portability of my phone or the capabilities of my laptop. It just does not make since to own it. I own the kindle because you can read it without eye strain and don't need to waste paper on books that you only use once.

awesome skit

I'd only do that for shitty books. For good books I'd actually, you know, reward the authors for their hard work.

that loner pissed me off

@mxwp just torrent the pdf version... you can get almost any book free in pdf form from many websites.. and just drag them on to the kindle... problem solved.

@MarmaladeINFP I don't have one quite yet, I'm ordering it, as soon as a check thats supposed to be here.. gets here lol. but, I was thinking getting the cheapest model of kindle, see how I like it, and if i like it, later give that to my grandma, and get a DX myself lol.

@meachy13 I just had another thought. Have you bought a Kindle yet? I have the newest model. I like it and I'm satisfied. But I might eventually by a DX. The smaller Kindle serves basic purposes for which I bought it. I just think that having a larger screen might be nice when I'm doing more extensive reading. My original purpose was to use my Kindle as a replacement for my electronic dictionary. I just wanted to put reference works on my Kindle, but it turns out I like reading on it.

@MarmaladeINFP Yeah I mean it would make absolutely no sense to get a kindle to look at fashion magazines.... If you read novels it just seems like the best choice out there, I don't have one (yet) but I plan to get one in the next few days, well order it anyways. I'm just sad ppl keep comparing it against the iPad... i mean its not an iPad type device, the iPad is used for different things as you said basically "light" readers, I couldn't imagine reading on an iPad all day, it would kill.

@meachy13 I should point out that the type of reading one plans to do makes a big difference. I tend to read books that are mostly text. The Kindle is very easy to read and allows for good quality presentation of black/white pictures. However, it's lack of color would be a major drawback for some people. The person I know who bought an iPad wanted it to read comic books which of course look better with color. Many magazines and art books would also look way better when viewed on an iPad.

@meachy13 You're welcome. As a non-rich person who is a heavy reader, I bought a Kindle shortly after writing the above analysis. I know of people who have bought the iPad and they seem very happy with their purchase. My decision-making process involved many factors, but the basic practicality of the Kindle fit what I was looking for. Besides, I've always had very good customer service from Amazon and they've earned my customer loyalty. It just comes down to knowing what you're looking for.
That iPad looked really bright like my eyes wuold hurt.

If you're someone who reads a lot and simply wants to be able to easily read anywhere you go, then the Kindle wins hands down. It's simply better as an all around e-reader. However, if you're a more casual reader who likes light reading such as magazines and don't care about having an e-reader you can carry with you at all times and you don't mind spending a lot more money, then the iPad is better. Then again, if you're rich enough, you'll simply by both since they serve different purposes.
