@s1nsp4wn I guess you hand in his ankle is to take off his balance, since he cant walk backwards to geet balanced again, by getting your own lapel you secure even more your grip, since he can't kick forwards to take the foot (even tho he can twist his foot inside..). Saulo Ribeiro teaches this in a different way, he also tells that it is essential to sweep him in the diagonal, but he sweeps the guy not by THROWING him, but by sweeping with his hips and legs.. correct me if im wrong please :

@witegetobro Correct me if I'm wrong Ken, but I think another reason that hook around the ankle (where you grab your lapel) is impt is cus he'll be too busy losing his balance to think about the ankle lock or maybe pulling your feet in right away like you said will stop him from rolling over you ankle ( like in botched pendulum sweeps) or attacking it

@witegetobro you shouldn't....you are not suppose to open your guard during the sweep

I use a similar sweep but instead of my buttcheek I just drop my butt to the floor and use my knee on the inside of his thigh to put the torque on his leg to make him fall. Works ok as long as they don't get a chance to steady their base from the stand.

@witegetobro IT's 50/50 chance however you guys have to respect each other, when doing knee bars, heel hooks or ankle locks they are very devastating on the joints too good and too quickly. So remember to go slow and if you get caught just tap, simple as that.
