ANOTHER WORLD: Carl's Redemption Pt. 148 (subject to change)

Carl Hutchins is back in Bay City and is determined to win the favor of not only its citizens but the love of his son, Ryan Harrison, and the heart of Rachel Cory. Carl's longtime enemies have other plans however. Is Carl a changed man? Will Kevin Anderson succeed in putting Carl behind bars? Will Carl be able to win the love and trust of his son Ryan? Will he be able to convince Ryan to fight for Vicky Hudson Harrison, currently married to his brother Grant?

In Part 148 (subject to change), Cass allows Carl to have two minutes to speak with Frankie. Once alone with her, Carl asks Frankie to look into his eyes and to tell him what she sees. When she tells him that she sees nothing, he responds that that is because he has no hidden agenda and that his love for Ryan is indeed genuine. He is content that Frankie, being a psychic, now knows this to be truth.*

Kevin runs into Lorna at the Jam Session studio and informs her that Carl is back in town. She replies that she already knows and that she doesn't care.

*Carl asks Frankie to look into his eyes and to tell him what she sees. When she tells him that she sees nothing, he responds that that is because he has no hidden agenda and that his love for Ryan is indeed genuine. He is content that Frankie, being a psychic, now knows this to be truth. Cass then takes Frankie away from Carl's table. She then tells Cass that she thinks they may have misjudged Carl.*

*(This is an almost exact duplicate of the previous scene between Carl and Frankie, but it's from the previous episode. It is also extended. Typically, tag scenes from a previous episode are re-enacted to preserve continuity from day to day.)

Lorna spurns Kevin's offer of protection. She states that she has better things to do than to worry about whether Carl Hutchins stops by for tea. In the next scene with Carl, we see that he is indeed drinking a cup of tea.

Felicia rebukes Carl for chasing away her friends from Tops. She also reminds him of the bomb that nearly killed Frankie when she saved Kathleen. Felicia also states that Carl lost Perry (his other son) and that he'll also lose Ryan, to which he tells her to go to hell.

Cass refuses to believe Frankie's intuition about Carl, thinking it is impossible that Carl would have any paternal instinct. He also thinks Frankie's hormones may be impairing her judgment.

Cass forbids Frankie to go anywhere near Carl and admits he's still haunted by how close he came to losing her when she almost died from the bomb. Cass asks her if she's willing to speak for everyone who Carl could hurt because of what her intuition is telling her. They depart from the terrace and Frankie catches one last glimpse of Carl and still feels she's correct. Kevin then arrives at Tops and tells everyone that Cass has to leave town to dredge up some dirt on Carl.

Kevin informs Cass, Frankie and Felicia that Carl has had recent dealings with the Harrisons. It is thought that the one Carl is dealing with is Spencer. Cass agrees to go out of town. Lorna then arrives and tells the crew that if she knows that they're conspiring against Carl, then so does Carl himself. Carl then interacts with the group with a parody from "Clue", letting them know he knows that they're plotting something against him.

  • I love *love* *LOVE* how the writers had Carl turn to Frankie as an "ally" in these early steps of his redemption, having her sense that he truly isn't up to anything other than to win the love of his son (and love the underscoring music, too!). I had no idea that happened, that's awesome.

  • I love Carl. He is hilarious.

  • "Colonel Mustard in the library with the candlestick": classic!
