Takehiro Murahama (JPN)
vs
Chamoakpet Chorchamoang (THA)
Part 1
Shootboxing Ground Zero 14.11.1998
Shootboxing rules

I am not sure of the date of this match and what rules was it fought under. Full shootboxing pro rules allow everything that Muay Thai does plus throws and standing submissions. But I didn't see one throw attempt in the match. Seeing that this was a Shotboxing event I would still assume it was fought under full shootboxing pro rules.

Murahama fought in K1 Max a couple of times. IIRC he fought against Masato, Souwer and Kid Yamamoto (both in K1 rules and MMA rules). He is a champion shootboxer however when he fought in K1 Max I feel that he was past his prime and was too small and light. Despite this he still gave Masato and Souwer a very competitive match though.

Murahama was/ is one of my favourite fighter to watch as I always see him as an underdog. He always seems to be smaller than his opponent in the matches I've seen him in. He has good movement around the ring, always attacking and moving which reminds of the way Savateurs move. A very versatile fighter, he also fights in MMA. Enjoy!

  • Yeah I noticed Murahama seemed massively overweight when he fought in K1 Max. When he fought in K1, was he representing shootboxing? What gym is he a trainer in now? Thanks for all the info WeLoveKamatari, much appreciated.

  • Chamoakpet was a great fighter, he won 9 titles throughout his career. Murahama at the time was a good fighter himself capable of beating Thai rankers and the best fighters from Japan. Chamoakpet was still too sharp for him.

  • Thanks for the info. It seems when Murahama entered K1 Max he was no longer with Shootboxing as he doesn't wear the trademark shootboxing pants anymore. Is this right? And if so, do you know the story why he left?

  • Murahama is no joke. I believe he broke Masato's nose in both their fights.

  • lol 6 ounce gloves...is a joke

  • As you can see from the promo leading up to the fight, Chamoakpet and Murahama fought twice with Chamoakpet winning both fights. This was during the twilight of his career. He's now a trainer in Japan.

  • K-1 actually held a mini featherweight tournament back in the day. Murahama beat Kensaku Maeda in K-1 who was a good fighter in his own right. After that he started to dabble in the world of puroresu and blew himself up in the process. I'm serious, he started to resemble a bloated whale. Which is funny as he's the same size as KID Yamamoto who he even fought in MAX. The extra weight was detrimental to his career.
