To my friends in other countries, yes it's true. I'm ashamed to say America has the only FOR PROFIT prison system in the world. Over 50 % are in there for NON VIOLENT DRUG OFFENSES (smoking a harmless plant). Pot smokers are much easier to deal with in a prison setting as opposed to rapists, gang members, murderers etc. Prison gurds are jerkoffs who couldn't get hired at McDonalds. Easy gig, easy money managing pot smokers. Then the Lockerbie Bomber goes free.

Inability to pay fees, taxes and fines is ground for incarceration in the USA. In other words we throw people in jail for being POOR.

the way america is at the moment, alot of it has to do with the privitization of the prisons. These companies receive more money the more inmates are in their care. It is in their best interest to fill their jails to capacity. These companies are huge conglomerates who have a lot of leverage in politics pushing for laws to benefit in their favour.
