S'altro che lagrime is an aria from one of Mozart's last operas, La Clemenza di Tito. In the opera, a plot to kill the Emperor is instigated by Vitellia, who asks Sesto (her lover) to carry out the murder. Sesto is then tried for treason and Vitellia becomes tormented with guilt. The aria is then sung by Sesto' sister, Servillia, warning Vitellia that her tears alone will not save Sesto, but that she must speak the truth to save him.
