WOW I'm so happy that I found this. I'll be 28 in May and I had to learn this song in the 2nd grade. Had to learn how to sing it and play it on a recorder, the instrument. Brought back a lot of good memories. Very happy to have found this. Though I'm sure my practicing on the recorder was torture to my family in our old apartment.

My daddy's mom sung this to him and his brothers when they where growing up and he sings it to me.

Thank you for the memories.
I had a great time growing up and this song was a part of that.

I'm so shocked there aren't more videos with this song! I've grown up with this song being sung to me by my parents and grandparents - always thought it was so popular, lol. Anyway, thanks!

@Mitch0115 : thats pretty cool!! I have a copy of the sheet music!! Your Uncle knew the great John L. Sullivan, he kinda started his career!! Such cool Americana!!! (your other uncle, Leo Edwards is awfully famous too!!)

Great video- fond memories, Thanks

My great great uncle Gus Edwards wrote the music for this song and many others ...How cool is that ! !!

My mom sang the verse to my sister and me each year when she was waking us up for the first day of school. Thanks so much for posting this!
You have mentioned that this song is by Byron G. Harlan. He is the singer (and he made the song popular). The writers are Will Cobb and Gus Edwards.

@qweneviere I didn't mean to imply that Harlan was the writer. Thank you for the additional information.
