I don't know who has written this song about the days in California gold rush of 1849.

The Traditional Ballad Index (http://www.csufresno.edu/folklore/BalladSearch.html) says:
AUTHOR: Charles Bensell ("Charley Rhoades") ?
EARLIEST DATE: 1874 (The Great Emerson's New Popular Songster)
http://www.csufresno.edu/folklore/ballads/R198.html

I found this song in the midth 1970 years in a song book. Don't know or heard this song.
But there where the singing notes printed too.
So I made it to a song sung by myself.
Today I remember it and I want to make a record. This evening (after I search long but found my old notations) I did it.
After I do this record I have a look at youtube and saw that Bob Dylan did a record and Jeff Warner too (and maybe some or many others).
Because of I don't remember heard it sung by others, before I do my record, I think I'm not in the right way of the tune.
Anyway...

*hope you like it*

  • Very nice job and I like your finger picking. I first heard this song by the folk group, Knob Lick Upper Ten Thousand. I think Bill Story of this group wrote it, but I will check the album cover. At any rate, beautiful job, great voice!
