The Long Island Sound

A very close friend pointed out a song called "Long Island Sound" by an excellent band named Beirut and told me to write a story to that song for us to film. I protested that 78 seconds was far too short but I found myself writing anyway.
In class one of the things we're taught is that it's very common for a story to be told over and over in new ways. So I decided to use this project to test myself. I wanted to see if I could take the classic story of "Guy meets girl, guy gets girl, guy loses girl, and guy gets girl again" and compress it into this 78 second time span while adding a twist so that it doesn't seem recycled. I don't know how well this achieves those goals but I'm happy with the final project.
We shot this over 2 hours with my Canon Elura 90 miniDV camera on the boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 with some post touch ups in Adobe After Effects CS3.
Thank you Rich and Laura for once again being my stars and letting me boss you around all day all for the grand payment of a Nathan's Lunch, and Steve, you are an awesome cinematographer. Thank you for getting your pants filled with sand for some of those shots.
