An innocent man, wronged unjustly, a cold-blooded demon yearning for freedom, a naive youngster searching for something new. Gankutsuou, a being of legend, a terror a thousand years in the making, appearing from the deepest, coldest depths of space to enter the life of a single, innocent teenage boy. What begins as a pleasant friendship turns into a whirlwind of mystery, horror and intrigue as a decade's worth of secrets come spilling out of the woodwork, leaving one, mystifying question in its wake: Who IS the Count of Monte Cristo?

A homemade movie trailer for a five-star series. I highly recommend any anime fan to watch it with gusto; I promise you won't see anything else quite like it ever again. I'm afraid I don't know the name of the song, but it was orchestrated by a group called Caveat Emptor, meaning 'Let the buyer beware'. I'd say it's quite appropriate.

  • Now that I've seen the anime, I will definitely look into the book. I wonder which is better? It's hard to beat an anime as flawless as this. XD

  • @leafgilly1

I've been reading the book for years and watching the anime since it came out and I STILL can't decide which is better.

  • this doesn't look anything like count of monte cristo.. what kind of twist did they put on it?

  • @okachoba

Where the book was told in Edmond's point of view, the anime is told in Albert's approximately 25 years after the events of the book, featuring him and his friends as main characters and side stories to add to the main story itself. It gives you some insight into characters that either didn't get much development or weren't even there to begin with. The only downside to be found is that it's almost banking on the fact that you've read the original book. Otherwise, it's fantastic.

  • what song did you use? is good

  • I don't know the name of the song myself, but it's by a group called Caveat Emptor who specialize in weird music. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for being the first to actually comment. ^_^

  • @Baphomet600 Obviously it isn't a movie but it is a trailer non the less

  • I really like this. Will probably show this to people who have not seen the anime yet in hopes to get them to see it.

  • Oh My Kami o.o There is an anime abou tthe count of Monte Cristo? I have the fucking book o.o ive just read the first chapter (of 117 chapters..)

  • @superearthbender No problem. But you have to admit: the Count looks awesome with the animation! XD

  • @leafgilly1 It's for a certain type of person. Too much detail in the series for me. It somewhat reminded me of watching The Twelve Kingdoms (which was very entertaining, despite the cryptic titles for everything one had to remember).

Thanks for the info, though. I wouldn't have guessed they'd make it *SUCK* ..(that way) on purpose. xP

  • @superearthbender I've actually looked into it, and I'm pretty sure that the animation was done that way on purpose to make it different. At first, it annoyed me to and turned me off, but it just the series more unique and memorable for me. Of course, that's just my opinion. XD
