What the heck, let's do something somewhat topical for a change. Here's me watching the JUST released trailer for The Hobbit, my reactions, and comments. And you also get a brief look at my Lord of the Rings books and videos. Enjoy!

Naturally I don't use any clips or audio FROM the trailer in this, but you can easily find it on YouTube and elsewhere if you want to check it out for yourself.

  • Smaug in part two, so obviously they won't show him in this trailer.

  • @ThaaWhiteShadow Not necessarily. What I heard was Part 1 is the book, Part 2 is the years between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit isn't a very long book, it can easily be done as one movie.

  • @Zaranyzerak Harry Potter 7 was a similar length journey and it was split in 2 parts making it one movie would have not been as good.

    Same with The Hobbit

Think about the story like this: Part 1 is the beginning, leaving the Shire, Golum, The Goblins, The Spiders, & the Elves.

Part 2 could be Lake Town, Smog the Dragon, & The epic battle of Darfs Men Elves and Orks over the treasure! Smog and the Battle could all be one movie like HP 7 was.

That's my opinion. What do you think?

  • @dpImagine The 7th Harry Potter book was a massive tome wrapping up complex plot threads from the 6 previous books, far lengthier than The Hobbit. It needed to be 2 parts to do the story justice.

That said, however, you have some very good points about how it could be nicely split into two movies, giving each significant section enough time to breathe! I would be very happy if they did it the way you suggest and left the missing years missing.

  • @Zaranyzerak The statement, "Part 2 will be the years between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings" don't make sense to me. The title for part 1 is "An Unexpected Journey" and Part 2 is "There and Back Again" so part 2 is going home.

I agree that the book is not that long but in a movie when you send time for scenes to play out you end up with hours worth of content.

  • @dpImagine Okay, they've changed things then. Back when the project was first announced, it was as I stated.

  • TDKR looks underwhelming???? Yeah, you and ten other people think that. I thought it looked awesome, but everybody is entitled to their own opinion.

  • @crazymaner2003 Nonsense. It looks fine.

  • OMFG THANK YOU

I was also one who watched "TDKR"-trailer, already kind of bored with the previews of the cast+characters, photos and behind-the-scenes-footage, and kind of went like "Meh..." after seeing it.

I was seriously not impressed, rather kind of feeling awkward about it and sort of dreading to see the movie.

I'm afraid this once again will be "that sucky 3rd movie" to be honest.

And as someone who's not per se a big fan of "LOTR" but does really like it, I'd probably enjoy 'The Hobbit'.

  • Is it weird I'm watching this video with the same headphones... MDR-XD200's?

  • @Zaranyzerak Yeah they did change things since then.

The thing is though I wondering what do you think the scenes in between lord of the rings and the Hobbit would have been?

PS Thank you for responding. I am a fan of your reviews. I like to to talk to people about movies and you are a great movie buff to have conversations with and listen to your option.

I can't wait to see your Transformers the Animated Movie Review!

  • Hey Zaranyzerak, do you mind doing a review of the Lord of the Rings Extended Edition on Blu-Ray?

  • Ditto. Still havent returned my copy of The Hobbit that i got from my middle school library. That was 10 years ago.

  • @Zaranyzerak

As I recall, the characters of The Hobbit don't encounter Smaug until very late into the novel. I think they talk about him throughout but they don't see him until much later. Seeing as how this first film will only contain the events of the first half of the novel, it makes sense that Smaug is not in this trailer. Looks like we'll have to wait until Dember 2013 to see Smaug the Magnificent! In any case, I'm looking forward to the next two Decembers being filled with Hobbit-y goodn
