In 2002 Sensei Karl Varley of New Zealand broke the Guiness World Record for the most baseball bats broken in under 60 seconds. Each bat had to be completely broken in half to count. The previous record of 23 was held by Markus Bock of Germany.

The bats used were actually competition grade softball bats that are 40% fatter than traditional baseball bats as the balls that they are designed to hit are significantly bigger and heavier than a baseball.

This record has never officially been recognised by Guiness.

It was 3 months before Sensei Karl could walk without pain and the wounds have taken over 7 years to heal.

  • What a waste of perfectly great bats.... x(...

  • bat size has nothing to do with this "record", because he was breaking the handle. Not the barrel.
