MUST SEE!!!!!
Simbang Gabi means literally Night Mass but this is Midnight Mass in Malinao, Aklan, Philippines for Christmas. In America, Christmas is more like just another mass but in Malinao, it is far much more. The lighting, the Pastoras which are the beautiful girls of the area who are in white and white hats with red ribbons acting as angels singing over the belen (The Nativity scene) and the choir with instruments. There is also the fabulous cometa (comet) which is the star leading all to the Manger and the giant moving paroles (giant traditional Filipino stars with numerous lights) that interact with the believers. This is an amazing sight to see and is done every Christmas in Malinao.
You should attend sometime.
This is very beautiful but when I saw the comet made of fireworks I was really worried. I just watched the video from the nightclub fire in Perm, Russia and the fireworks set the ceiling on fire. In this case you can see burning pieces falling and hot smoke rising up. I think that they came close to starting a fire in the church. If I saw this happen, I would take my family and calmly walk out of the church and I would tell the priest to not take such risks with his congregation.
