Ich wollt' ich wär' ein Huhn (original - Glückskinder) 1936

Song from the 1936's movie "Lucky Kids" aka "Glückskinder" performed by those days German teenage idol Willy Fritsch together with Lilian Harvey, Paul Kemp and Oskar Sima. Directed by Paul Martin.
In fact, this film is the German adaption of the Oscar decorated film "It Happened One Night" with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert with a slightly modified story.
Because of the loss of talented, in particular, jewish film authors after 1933, the Nazi regime was desperately seeking for inventive film ideas and therefore sent Paul Martin to the States to study the film business over there. He came back with this story and modified it for the German market. In the middle of the scene within this clip (3:04) Paul Martin pays credit to the original film with a funny idea when Willy Fritsch sings "I wish I was Clark Gable mustached and with saber..."
Composer of the song is Peter Kreuder.

This is what the chorus says. It does not really make sense but is related to the story. The three guys were fired from their jobs minutes before. The author Curt Goetz was famous for his playing with words and double meanings.

@jaguar4u2012 I think it's always very risky to speak about a topic like that in public. One can stand his opinion and then there will be those who think it is racistic to say that. So I don't know. I just wanted to say that my own experience was that I got strange looks as I mentioned I am German. That was in London. But it were only a few. Ppl there are pretty nice too :)

@jaguar4u2012 True true but somehow it doesn't matter where you are, when you say you#re german you will always get a strange look. Even when ppl don't say it, they still are not over it yet.
