I've seen alot of these films, documentaries, books and I wonder, do these people actually like living this way? Part of me always thinks that they don't want their lives to get better -- in fact, maybe get worse. I'm lucky enough not to grow up in such bad area but I can't help but wonder if this is just all "I've got it worse than you" Thinking?

(Part of me is expecting a "you don't know shit" or "You can't understand" respnse).

I've grown up in Mozart Estate in Queen's Park- statistically, an area with the highest child deprivation in the UK. So yes, your view is very one-dimensional (not trying to offend you, I understand why you would see it that way), which shows why these kids do not achieve much. They are not guided, they do not have the facilities and, unfortunately, they are victims to the self-fulfilling prophecy as a result of this deprivation. Understand this, these kids are not bad kids - the system is bad.
