If they had persecuted Freed for his singing, I might have been on board with it.

This is in my favorites also... I have Rock Rock Rock, very fun movie - for its time. A more innocent time. The music and dancing was the best, ever. We just enjoy it for what it is.

Freed was hounded by the FBI, police and racists because he played and worked with the original black artists.
Shame on those who drove him down

man had a vision then they stole it made american bandstand, slandered his name killed or improsonined most of the notable rock stars of the time and him with a bio weaopon in 1965, ..

Caught this film last night on TCM. When I heard Freed "singing," I though t I was hallucinating. Shame they made Freed a scapegoat for a practice that always was and still is common. Sadly, he died about a year after the 'scandal.'

@darilc1966 Payola was an acceptable practice in the fifties and Freed was made an example- when everyone was doing it- and as far as small labels, Freed gave every small black group an opportunity to be heard. He did more for American race relations than most of the 60s activists!
Alan freed took the bullet and introduced RNR to all kids all races.

Without this guy there won't be any rock 'n' roll today, folks. If there is one man deserving the title "king of rock 'n' roll" it is Alan Freed!
