What is the cab identifier on a 6000? c60ac? i think ive seen a c60\44ac in colorado... is this that kind of locomotive?

@singletrackmatt: Yeah, the original UP AC6000's said C60AC on the cab. C6044AC's look very similar, but don't have the dual exhaust the C60AC's did.

Why would a freight type engine from Union Pacific be hauling (so to speak) an Amtrak engine and its cars?

When one of Amtrak's P42DC's has a malfunction, and there are no other Amtrak locomotives available without making the passengers wait for days. This has happened more often lately.
