  • I'm having this procedure done for my heart, I'm honestly really scared..Do I have to be knocked out for it? Will it hurt if I'm not? Honestly my biggest fear is being put under..but I'm also kind of a light weight when it comes to pain tolerance.

  • @thedoorsforever Here in Portugal they do not sedate or numb you and its very very painful.. I could never go through it again. Hope your pain has went away =)

  • @czeralynn I had it done today here in Portugal and my gosh was it painful... no numbing and I was awake for the whole thing. NEVER again will I let them touch my back. Im happy yours turned out good... best of luck to you =)

  • @czeralynn I've done it both with taking oral Ativan and without taking anything. It's not too bad either way. For me, the Ativan helps relax me enough that laying on the table doesn't hurt as much afterward. I actually zoned out so much during one RFA that my pain doc was concerned because he asked me something and I didn't respond. I was off in another world.

  • I am having a repeat RFA done 2/8/12 on 3 levels of my lumbar spine on the right side. Later we will do the left side.I've already had both sides done twice. Then I typically get 12 mo of relief from the RFA. It's been 4 yrs since my last one, but in that time my back didn't hurt as much as usual as I was unable to walk. I just began walking again in Apr `11 & now hurt badly. I don't think the procedure is painful.Yes it is also called a rhizotomy, or a neurotomy. Good luck tomorrow sarmoment.

  • I am having this procedure done this Wednesday Feb 8, 2012 on both sides of L4, L5 & S1. I am so excited that something FINALLY looks like its going to work (the test was a blazing success taking away 95% of all of my pain for 3 days!! Thank you for posting this! I am so much calmer when I really understand & have seen what will be done. This was so much more helpful than those animation videos!

  • is this also considered a 'rhizotomy'? or is it a different procedure alltogether?

  • I had the procedure done 5 hours ago and am very sore. My Dr told me I will need to ice it for 24 hours. Hoping once it heals up I will have less pain on a daily basis! I too did the sedation during the procedure, couldn't imagine doing it without!!!

  • What kind of specialty doctor is he?
