this is me belting up a friend's 1908 TT peerless. it is rated at 50hp on the belt. 8 1/4" x 10" bore and stroke built 1908. the reverse was a little stiff from sitting for awhile but i think i did ok for my first time, lined up in one shot.
yur correct, it is a fan. it was invented by a.d. baker to test his traction engines in his factory at swanton, ohio and is called a baker fan. the purpose is to load your engine to work it a little. the faster you try to spin this fan the more horsepower it requires to spin it. in theory a more powerful engine can spin it faster.
What's the purpose of the belt driven piece of machinery? It kinda looks like a fan.
