@kenorian: amen. i felt the same way when i heard his stuff 30 years ago. larry was a huge influence on my music and my walk with god. i was devastated when i discovered, months later, that he went home. devastated for us, but happy for him. just imagine the rifts he's playing now!

I've never forgotten a testimony about Larry years ago: he was in a restaurant with his crew; they were exhausted, on the road, I think. He overheard some folks at another table doing the whole "hooking up" thing and said to his table: "I'm sorry, I have to talk to them." His friends were actually a little exasperated, just wanted to enjoy thier quiet, private meal; but he went ahead and shared the gospel with the strangers anyway. That was his heart for Jesus and the lost! A genuine man of God.

I am from a little red neck town. I stuck out like a sore thumb as I was into the HIPPIE life. IN JAN.1971 while on lsd I had had enough and got on my knees, begged for forgiveness and asked JESUS to come in my life.HE DID . I LED OTHERS TO THE LORD! IT bothered me that the music at church did not move me I THOUGHT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH ME . I ASKED GOD TO PLEASE GIVE ME SOME CHRISTIAN MUSIC I COULD DIG. I FOUND LARRY NORMAN AND ALL THE WEST COAST MUSIC! NOW I SHOUTED WITH PRAISE.

The first time I heard this song, it was sung by a pair of beautiful friends at a coffee house in Jasper Alberta -- The Bedford Inn -- in the basement of the Baptist Church.
They touched many hearts with their song... but no one can sing these with the intensity and impact of Larry Norman:
"And that's who I believe he was/
'cause that's who I believe."
30 years ago(crazy to realize that) I was in my bedroom.... I remember so clearly the moment I first heard this song. So, now I'm in my 50s, lots of downs and ups in my walk with God. Last night I was feeling a bit down... and saw that Larry died. I was reflecting on his so honest witness to Christ. Larry, rest in peace and rise in glory.... met you once, hope to connect on some spiritual level in the future.... whatever that means in the contest of eternity.

Obviously a Christian music pioneer. Funny to think how controversial he was back in the early 70's. Can godly music have a 4/4 beat?!?!?! What an embarrassing debate in retrospect -- the church wasting its precious time on a distracting, non-issue. LN blazed a path along with -- back then -- a very few others. As someone has said previously, I look forward to connecting with him in the age to come and thank him for blessing us with contemporary music that glorified our King.
