Low approach and "beating up the field" in the Collings Foundation's rare, fully dual-controlled P-51C Mustang. Of course, inexperienced me was not allowed to fly this aircraft this low to the ground, but I certainly DID get to crank it around the skies of SoCal, USA for the majority of our one-hour flight! I got to "Rule the Skies" over Southern California in command of this aircraft for all that time. Stu Eberhardt is the pilot in the front seat. My thanks to Stu and the Collings Foundation--- FLY ON!

I Too, had the same experience with Stu, flying Betty Jane out of Paso Robles. What a sweet handling airplane! Once in a lifetime for me.

@FSimviator Lots of taildragger time beforehand. One suggestion is to get some time in a Citabria or Decathlon, or piper cub. Then, several hours in a T-6 and get a tail wheel sign off. Then, do the Mustang school at Stallion 51 in Kissimmee, for the Mustang sign-off. All very expensive, but if you have the time and money, that is one way to do it.

How does a pilot get to be the pilot of these vintage fighters?

I recently saw this same Mustang at Kansas City Downtown Airport. The sound of that engine always gives me goosebumps.

I flew on the Nine-O-Nine this year in Dallas. Very fearful for a first time flier but also very impressive. Balls of steel must have been present to fly a fighter paired now with the cost of at least 1,000$.
