NICE!!!! Is this also a dual VANOS like on the E39 528i. I know they're both 2.8L engines. Where did you buy the seals at? Or did you replace the whole VANOS unit?
I am having similar symptoms. Did you get a check engine light with your problem? I am not getting one. My local shop told me if it was vanos then I'd get a light. They think it's my fuel pump which doesn't make sense to me.

No I did not get a check engine light with this problem. The only symptom was the hesitation about a minute into starting the engine from cold. I even go the the BMW code reader from Peake Research and it didn't have any codes.

Mine has the same problem. It drops rpm on a cold start sometimes stalls, but runs perfect when it gets warm. Garage told me that its an idle valve problem. So it is defenitely a VANOS then?

I replaced ICV too but it didn't help at all. I had the same symptoms, cold start hesitation (sometimes a stall) but great after engine is warm. You either live with it or do the vanos seal repair.
