From the following Monday's programme, the contents of the capsules have been cleaned up and amazingly some of them still play. Plus there's the small matter of burying another capsule for 2029 - which presumably will need to be dug up and moved to Salford in the next few years!

  • Shame they didn't at least try and play the VHS tape, even if it probably was knackered (then again, the 1971 tape clearly still played!). Although there is an old TV next to the 1984 stuff- was that there for any particular reason?

  • It might have helped if the presenters hadn't torn into the packages like they were opening Christmas presents!

  • All these items would have been in better condition if they were just put into a cupboard in a house. 'Time Capsule' stupid idea, just keep the stuff under the bed. It would be in perfect condition then.

  • Why is the guy saying 'that brings back some memories' about the items from 1971? He clearly wasn't even 29 years old himself!

  • if only i could have appreciated connies item at the time

  • @2001JamesTV Film is far more durable than VHS. A VHS that's been stored in a dry place where the heat varies can be rendered unplayable. I'd hate to think how bad it'd be when waterlogged too.

  • It's a shame really because not as many people watch Blue Peter any more and it might not make it to 2029. I hope it does!!

  • I buried my time capsule on July 1st 2000. I need to unearth it next year as I am scared water gets inside and ruin my precious photos and contents.

  • my generation :)

  • Hope they remember to take it to Salford with them!!
