  • davie bowie does a good cover, but i actually prefer this version

  • The comparison of the Bowie & Verlaine versions really misses the point! Bowie wasn't trying to out-do Tom Verlaine - he was paying tribute to him. I'm sure Bowie, modest as he is, would find the original to be the best!

  • Personally, I find Bowie's version to be horrible. Musically its great, but his singing is so over the top it cancels out anything good about it. Sad really.

  • jeez,,,,i dont know what to say , i love bowies version , but this,,,,this sounds like a sunday morning, i love it

  • @realghengisThis is from before Scary Monsters. Tom wrote it. Bowie liked the song, got permission, and did a cover. Tom Verlaine and Television are musician's musicians. This is Tom Verlaine's song. It is from around 78 or 79. I remember when it when I was a teen. Google it and find out.

  • I'm a huge Televion and Tom Verlaine, but in reading the comments...man, TV fans are a different breed. No flaming, debates actually resolved. As opposed to Metallica video comments usually consist of ridiculous comparisons like, "Who's the better guitarist, Kirk Hamment, or Chris Broderick."

  • Both Verlaine's and Bowie's versions are great, but Bowie is Bowie, after all, and it's very hard to surpass The Gentleman. So, yes, Tommy V is a talented fellow, but Bowie is the Emperor -- the Thin White Emperor -- of all Male Rock and Pop Stars, and its very hard to surpass an emperor. So, this version is excellent, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to say, Team Bowie.

  • @paulwhitberg Thanks for the correction!

  • I was wrong about Verlaine, but you are wrong about Fripp. Fripp plays on "Fashion", "It's No Game", "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)", "Kingdom Come", "Up the Hill Backwards" and "Teenage Wildlife

  • Robert Fripp plays on the Bowie version and the rest of the album.

  • Well, at least Bowie has a good voice :P

  • @SirPwn4lot Thank you for recommending him that great band.
