I should not really have to this but I do have a deep respect for native welsh speakers , those who were brought up in the language naturally have a deep affection for it .

@acefreaky oh and it does help you to remember that the chemical symbol for gold is Au. As would knowing Latin.

Yup and I think being taught everything in Welsh has helped me in my Engineering degree. Many people in university speak more than one language, in fact you are an odd one out if you only speak 1. If you think it's a waste of time, I guess you want to stop teaching art, English literature, drama, etc. in schools too? Your extreme view is just as bad as the English hating view on the other end of the spectrum. It's a shame that the extremists pushed you to be an extremist too.

@MissBecky5071 I actually went to the blessed " redfelin" at that time it was full of rabid nationalists and I am sure there were many that were swayed (brainwashed) we were given "cymraeg" to put over english street signs many do gooders dont realise is that in a welsh school everything is taught in welsh maths, french, physics come on where else in britain will you use aur in your experiments- .Wake up! the language is only pandered to to appease the woodspeople and the politically correct

@acefreaky It's fair enough if you don't want to learn, that's your choice. All Welsh speakers don't "condemn" people for not speaking it; I think Welsh should be respected out of courtesy. Like I said, I know all the literature that I would be missing out of if I only spoke English, those who don't speak more than 1 language will naturally find this more difficult to understand. Exactly as you said, this is the internet age, and so Facebook is available in Welsh and is on google translate.

To me and the majority of south walians the welsh language is an oddity. We are intensely proud to be welsh and but sure what that means , most will guiltily shuffle and say i would like to learn but really cant be arsed. The born againers however full of religious welsh zeal condemn anyone who does not join the cause they dig out irrelevant facts the rebecca riots etc zzz this is the internet age and without s pedwar eck which we all pay for + assembly only woods would hear the language

.....I hope that we the Welsh, can move on from the cruelty that's been shown towards the language, and that some people who still hate the language can move on in respecting it's importance. Some people's attitudes may be extreme, but please don't let this cloud your view, one particular poem sums this up for me: "Hon" by T.H. Parry Williams. There is an English translation if you don't speak Welsh, but the poetic sound is unfortunately lost in translation. Best Wishes.
