@williambbertram The 2nd edition has an entire chapter on groundfighting.

I have the book "Attack Proof", and it has a permanent place on my bookshelf, and I've read it several times. I agree completely with the authors approach to self defense. As far as ground fighting goes, I agree again with the authors. On the ground is not an ideal place to be, but if you wind up there then your goal should be to try and get up as soon as possible. The book doesn't go into Native American ground fighting, but I'd sure love some instruction in this area.

Sounds great. I appreciate the info :). Look forward to it

@mattkovsky Ok Mr NinjaTurtle, I'm done talking to children. Our students are professionals: FBI, SEALs, Air Marshalls, corrections officers and police trainers, all brave men and women, using it to save their bacon daily and all giving their real names, not hiding behind computers. Have a nice day.
My brothers and I were playing football with some kids outside. The biggest kid starts bullying everyone. Slapping, punching, and pushing our friends. He tries it on my big brother, and Si slams him with koshiguruma. It knocked the wind out of the bully and he laid there and cried. All the other kids got scared. I don't think they've seen judo before. The bully couldn't fight on the ground cause he didn't know how to fall. He's our friend now!
The ground hurts if you don't know judo.

@NIKandSi Kids are one thing. When adults attack each other it's a different world: people wind up in the hospital or morgue and tactics must change.

@mattkovsky
If adults don't know how to fall, then we don't think it is a good idea for those adults to get thrown to the hard ground by a judo expert. We are glad to see you guys use mats. That will help keep you safe. In Winter we like to go outside in the snow and throw each other. Do you guys train like that? It's fun! It can be hard to do judo in the cold and snow. Come watch our snow videos!
Thanks for the chat!
God bless!

@NIKandSi To save your life, the idea is to not get thrown (or try to throw) but to take out the eyes & throat of the enemy and disable him right where he stands with as little close body-on-body interaction as possible. If you do fall, grappling with the enemy just exposes you to further danger or a boot party on your head from his friends. There we advocate ground kicking with your boots, keeping your head away from his feet. U.S. WWII trainers such as Col. Applegate stressed Atemi over thows.

@mattkovsky,
Mr. Kovsky, sorry we didn't get back with you sooner. We had a bunch of school work. We understand you want to rip out eyes and throats and really kill bad guys, but we wanted to know if you thought it was a good idea for an adult who doesn't know how to fall to get thrown by a judo expert at full speed on the hard ground. Do you think that's a good idea? And how many eyes + throats have you ripped out? Did you keep them? That would be gross! Did you go to jail?

@NIKandSi Gosh, golly gee, you're very silly, but It's unfortunate as martial art instructors that a serious subject is treated as a sport; what is taught to children in no way relates to adult violence; falling is a training tool for competition and your whole conversation is out of context with saving your life, just ask victims of rape and home invasions. You need to read some police reports.
