was it the ground wire for the battery that came loose?? i did the same thang to mine when i was cleanin out the mud from under the hood i accidently knocked the ground wire off. theses trucks are tough as nails and them 2.9's(looks like what yours has too) are pretty strong little motors. i have a 6 inch trailmaster lift and 33" tires and that 2.9 pulls em pretty decent for a little v6. tho mine has had cams put in it and it been rebuilt from the bottom up.

Yeah I finally got my 88 going again too, mine ended up being a bad coil.
